Aerial Coordination

Aerial coordination and film-flying approvals

Aerial Coordination

A great aerial sequence is the result of structured coordination long before the rotor turns. Specialist Helicopters provides full aerial-coordination — risk management plans, CASA approvals and permits, ATC and authority liaison, aircraft and crew sourcing — so the production can focus on the creative. Our head of safety, Jen Bewes, has even achieved a CASA regulatory change to permit an otherwise-prohibited complex night stunt.

  • Risk management plans and aviation safety oversight
  • CASA approvals, location permits and authority liaison
  • Air traffic control coordination and airspace management
  • Aircraft and specialist-crew sourcing for single- and multi-aircraft units
  • Achieved a CASA regulatory change for a prohibited night stunt (Sony Pictures hero shot)
One call covers it

Questions

Aerial Coordination FAQ

What does an aerial coordinator do on a film?

The aerial coordinator manages everything that makes aerial work safe and legal — risk plans, CASA approvals, permits, airspace and ATC liaison, aircraft and crew — and briefs additional pilots on multi-aircraft shoots to keep flight profiles and safety margins consistent.

Do you handle CASA approvals and permits?

Yes — securing CASA approvals, location permits and authority sign-off is core to our service, including complex and first-of-kind operations.

Can you coordinate multiple aircraft?

Yes. We lead and brief additional pilots to ensure consistency in flight profiles, safety margins and creative execution across the whole aerial unit.
